About Debbie Hanson

As a Chicago area native, Debbie was blessed to have had the experience of spending childhood summers fishing the lakes of Upper Michigan with my grandfather for bluegill, perch, and walleye. She is forever be grateful to her grandfather for taking her out on the water at a young age.

However, throughout adolescence, she struggled to find herself and the courage to lead a life of purpose. One thing was certain, Hanson’s love for fishing always remained constant — it was her primary source of empowerment and fulfillment.

Empowering Women & Newcomers

While Hanson has fished competitively through participation in several tournaments over the years (2003 Islamorada Women’s Sailfish Tournament, 2012 Chix-N-Stix Ladies Fishing Tournament, 2013 LCEC United Way Inshore Fishing Tournament, and 2013 Flats Invitational Redfish Challenge), she soon discovered that her greatest source of happiness came from continuing with the legacy that her grandfather started by introducing newcomers to the sport of fishing.

She decided that there was no better way to share her passion than to help educate and empower other women who have a true desire to learn more about fishing. Hanson hopes that her blog, articles, seminar appearances, and speaking engagements will not only inspire other young women to get out on the water, but encourage them to find a career doing something they are truly passionate about.

Writing Experience

As a member of the Florida Outdoor Writers Association and the Outdoor Writer’s Association of America, Hanson’s writing has been featured in a number of online and print publications. Yep, she actually went to school for all of this writing and blogging stuff. She earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree from the Western Illinois University School of English & Journalism.

I just read your story, with a smile and tears you brought me back to my childhood and growing up. My grandfather was the one who taught me boats and fishing at an early age…through life I had set all that on the back burner and since I lost him almost 2 years ago I myself have been lost. I’ve found my connection again through the water. Thank you for your story, it truly touched me.
